How to ask customers for Google reviews

Ask close to the end of a real customer experience, use a short message, and give the customer a direct way to leave a review.

1. Pick a moment your team can recognize

For a home-service business, that might be after a final walkthrough. For a salon, it might be after checkout. For a shop, it might be on the receipt. Pick a moment that comes after the customer has enough experience to describe the service.

2. Use one clear request

Thank the customer, say which business you’re writing from, and invite them to share their honest experience. For a text, put the direct Google review link on its own line so it’s easy to tap.

Hi [first name], thanks for choosing [business name] for [service]. If you have a minute, we’d appreciate an honest Google review about your experience.

For email, use a subject like How was your visit to [business name]? Put the same message in the body and label the link Leave a Google review. In person, you can point to a QR code on the receipt.

3. Give every customer the same opportunity

Apply the same process to customers with a genuine experience. Keep the wording neutral, welcome positive and negative feedback, and keep discounts or gifts separate from reviews. Google’s review guidance explains what it allows.

4. Test it before asking customers

Open the request on a phone, tap the link, and check that the review screen shows the right business and location. If your team has several locations, label each link so staff can tell them apart.

Next, find and test your Google review link.
